How to Replace an new audi keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are different pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Test them out to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. To accomplish this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor audi Smart Key replacement (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

The signs of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these signs. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially when they're an Bosch sensor like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your audi Q3 key's transmission, because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, and also timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common feature across the audi a3 key fob replacement 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.holding-car-keys-woman-in-formal-clothes-is-indoo-2021-12-27-15-52-03-utc-min-scaled.jpg
