World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all the leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the sheer number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

Item level is a commonly used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at a lower level. Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the item level. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it's able to deal. The item level can also be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.

On PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories on how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth and gems in sockets add to the overall value of the item level upgrade. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzard's real item level.

However, this isn't the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl as the level of the region the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher value.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods which are then increased by the player's skill.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.

All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

This is another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. But, like base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items (check here). It provides players with an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is particularly useful in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be made or spawn with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item upgrader kit up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Every item upgrader kit has an average success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by an additional five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
