How to Replace an audi spare key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test because there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine without sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, but i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire while in the gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. The good thing is that they are very cheap and easily accessible, especially if you're looking at the Bosch sensor, which is what ours are. Alternately, GM's version this component is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous issues in your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi a3 key fob replacement, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

renault-logo-evolution.jpgThe G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control fuel, timig, and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a standard component across the new audi keys q3 audi replacement key cost (valleyvessel3.werite.net official website) 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones might be availble in wrecking yards.Peugeot-2021-New-Black.png
